Welcome to the website for the Ceredigion Arts Society.

Ceredigion Art Society has for over 50 years played its part in the cultural life of the area, and is still going strong.

Hywel Harries (1921-1990) established Ceredigion Art Society in 1963. Hywel was well known in Cardiganshire (as it was then known) as artist, cartoonist, and an art teacher, being resident cartoonist for The Cambrian News for many years. He worked as Art Master at a school in Ealing for a year in 1948. The same year he married Caroline Thomas, returning to Wales to work as Art Master at Machynlleth Secondary School 1950-1954, later becoming head of Art at Ardwyn Grammar School, Aberystwyth and Penglais School. Known for his generosity with voluntary groups, he nurtured the talents by deepening awareness and appreciation of art in generations of students, though his art and art history lessons.

The Society endeavours to carry on his legacy through its activities and connections with local organisations and artists.

He would be very proud that the Society is still going strong.
